The 2022 Morgon “Côte du Py” from Jean-Michel Dupré is an fine example of both this excellent vintage and this superb terroir. The bouquet is bright and nicely red fruity this year, wafting from the glass in a mix of cherries, pomegranate, sweet cranberry, stony soil tones, peonies, gamebird and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, red fruity and nicely structured out of the blocks, with a good core of fruit, fine soil transparency, fine-grained tannins and lovely length and grip on the still fairly primary finish. This is still fairly adolescent reticent and deserves some time in the cellar to properly relax structurally and blossom, but it will be a fine bottle once it is truly ready to drink. (Drink between 2028-2050)

Cool, fresh palate with bright red fruit, rose petals and black peppercorn spice. Smooth, silky texture, refreshing acidity, a mineral edge and rustic charm. (Panel Tasting)

Medium-bodied with orange peel, red berry fruit, bark and crushed stone on the nose. Rather soft on the palate for a Cote du Py, but with the rocky and savory undertones. I would expect a bit more power from this terroir.

This Morgon Côte du Py has a nose of cherry cola, strawberry, pomegranate and forest floor. There is some chalkiness on the midpalate that is in balance with tart red fruit. This wine is restrained with personality like a wildcard dinner-party guest. (RS)

A perennial favorite and best value the Domaine Jean Michel Dupre Morgon Cote du Py is once again stunning in 2022. Cote du Py is arguably the greatest vineyard site in the Cru appellation of Morgon and most of the time wines from this vineyard site fetch $35+ a bottle so to get a wine of this quality for under $20 is a steal! The 2022 Jean Michel Dupre Morgon Cote du Py is loaded with fleshy dark berry fruit, spice and notes of crushed rock and iodine. Seamless and full on the palate this wine shimmers with energetic berry fruit and spice with a layered, complex finish. An ideal wine to pair with almost any cuisine that requires a red wine.
