2022 Domaine Jean-Michel Dupré Morgon "Côte du Py"

John Gilman
Review Date: 07/2024The 2022 Morgon “Côte du Py” from Jean-Michel Dupré is an fine example of both this excellent vintage and this superb terroir. The bouquet is bright and nicely red fruity this year, wafting from the glass in a mix of cherries, pomegranate, sweet cranberry, stony soil tones, peonies, gamebird and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, red fruity and nicely structured out of the blocks, with a good core of fruit, fine soil transparency, fine-grained tannins and lovely length and grip on the still fairly primary finish. This is still fairly adolescent reticent and deserves some time in the cellar to properly relax structurally and blossom, but it will be a fine bottle once it is truly ready to drink. (Drink between 2028-2050)
