When I was first introduced to Isabelle Guiller and Henri Montabonnet of Clos de la Bonnette, it was love at first sight. They had one of the most stunning vistas of any vineyard I had ever visited. But it was their dedication to this property that sealed the deal. The property had laid uncultivated since the end of World War II and when they acquired it, they took the painstaking process of rebuilding the terraces by hand all while farming organically. They are now over 30 years into this grand experiment. Isabelle and Henri were early adopters of organic cultivation in the region and now many more of their peers have followed suit. The Legende is the classic Condrieu from Bonnette and the namesake wine for their winery name. Showing the hallmark characteristics of Condrieu - there is an explosion of aromas from night jasmine to peach blossom. Pear, honey, papaya and nectarine unfold on the palate with light saline notes and a touch of orange blossom. Exotic but not overwhelming, this is Viognier that unfolds and delivers layers of flavors as it opens.
