The 2019 Terrers is a blend of 57% Xarel·lo, 25% Macabeu, 17% Parellada and 1% Monastrell from close to 60 different vineyards, all organic and biodynamic. It was disgorged after 40 months in bottle with the lees. Since 2017, they have used concentrated must from the same vintage to referment the wine in bottle, and since 2013, they have used indigenous yeasts for the first fermentation. 2019 was a very complete year, with good yields of healthy and expressive grapes, and I see it in the wines from this vintage. It's serious, subtle, elegant and compact with complexity and elegance, with a great balance between youth and age with the lees. It has a lively palate, with abundant, fine bubbles and some leesy flavors and with the volume from the lees and the bubbles. It has depth and complexity like no other vintage before. It has 12% alcohol, with a pH of 3.19 and 4.6 grams of acidity. 260,000 bottles produced. It was disgorged in November 2023. (LG)

57% Xarel-lo, 25% Macabeo, 17% Parellada and 1% Monastrell. This, one of the last of the run of 2019 Terrers, has seen an impressive 52 months on lees (the first of a new vintage will see around (36 months). It's a welcome boost to what is already an excellent vintage for Recaredo's entry level, showing grapefruit oil, dried apricot and salty pastry all picked up by delicate spice notes and a persistent, chalky-dry palate. Subtle and fine.

A true cult sparkler from one of the world’s great traditional-method houses. Hand-riddled, aged under natural cork, and disgorged by hand at cellar temperature—this is craftsmanship taken to the extreme. A remarkable 52 months on the lees and zero dosage give it a nutty, intense, bone-dry profile with aromas of toasted hazelnut, baked apple, and crushed stone. Layered, age-worthy, and uncompromising—a sparkling wine for serious drinkers who want substance over polish.

The nose on this one is so interesting! I caught a whiff of light spearmint, pear puree, clean pine nut, white flowers, lemon. So darn interesting! It has great mouthfeel, too. More richness than expected, with lovely but, not jarring acidity. It is still clean and fresh, though. White orchard fruits, tangy minerals and a citrus that leans more toward mellow than overly acidic. There is a nice herbal note and a very fine bead with creamy mouthfeel. The finish is extremely long and has the pleasant citrus and salt bite that one expects from Brut Nature.

Notes

Recaredo is one of the world's great sparkling wine projects. Started in 1924, proprietor Josep Matep Capellades was a sparkling wine disgorger who began reserving his own bottles. He built his own cellar and eventually founded Caves Recaredo. Over the last 80 years, the winery has acquired some of the best land in Alt Penedes and most of the vineyards are on calcareous soil (similar to that of Champagne). Keeping with tradition the wines are aged on the lees under natural cork enclosures, hand disgorged without freezing the neck and no dosage is added keeping these bubblies at the Extra Brut level of dryness.
