Reviewed May 2022This effort from a very cool Marin County vineyard is a classic, blending delicious black-fruit and red-fruit flavors with the haunting complexity of tea leaves, rhubarb and redwood forest on a lively, snappy texture that's also layered and creamy. *Cellar Selection* (JG)

A slightly cooler and higher-toned nose is comprised by notes of red pinot fruit, rose petal, violet and a whiff of tea. The less concentrated but sleeker and finer middle weight flavors possess excellent delineation while exhibiting good length on the youthfully austere, dusty and balanced finale. *Outstanding*

Pouring a rich ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Azaya Ranch Vineyard was aged for 17 months in French oak, 50% of which was new. Compact aromas of black cherry, graphite, and violets open in the glass, followed on the palate by a full-bodied Pinot Noir that’s ample without weight, revealing more dark berries, rocky earth, and Earl Gray tea.
