If you are looking for Tempranillo less on the fruity side and more dominated by savory herbaceous notes, you have to give this a try. This is an unmistakably well-made wine; several layers of earthen charm have a complexity and depth that can only be achieved by a winemaker that really knows what they are doing. You might call me a little crazy, but this Rioja has one of the most unique noses I've smelled recently. On top of the expected red and black brambley fruits, there's a distinctive grapefruit zest that somehow keeps worming its way to the top of the pecking order. It's engaging more than it is distracting, and it kept me going back to smell this over and over until I could figure out what it was. The palate is rich, all of the Bideona wines that I've tasted today have definitely been bigger and bolder wines, but a through-line has been really outstanding balance between the bigger palate is a nice racy acidity that keeps things copacetic.
