Review Date: 12/2023Read All Reviews
The 2020 L4GD4 Viñas Viejas is 100% Tempranillo sourced from Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa. Aged in concrete vats and foudres, this cherry-red wine reveals ripe balsamic notes alongside herbs and black fruits. Dry and silky, with fine-grained tannins, it features a vibrant, refreshing core and a mouthwatering, energetic finish. This is a unique, flavorful, primary Rioja. Also of note, its clever, elusive name subtly alludes to the place without explicitly mentioning it, adhering to the labeling regulations in Rioja. (JH)

Spiced strawberries and cherries with touches of hibiscus and minerals. Nimble and bright, with a medium body and fine chalky tannins. Lots of drinkability, but serious and long. Excellent fruit quality. Drink or hold.

Six parcels in Laguardia, planted between 1965 and 1986, are the source of this field blend of mostly Tempranillo with other interplanted varieties. Chalky, structured and subtle, with refined oak, subtle reduction, sappy red cherry and strawberry fruit and a bright, acid-driven finish. 2024-28

Email MariahThis is one of the Bideona wines we carry that expertly balances approachability and refined polish with grace. Supple mixed berries blend with a lovely balsamic note on the palate that lasts through the finish. This might be my favorite of the line!

Email AaronBright red-fruit notes overlay the overall duskier and darker fruit on the rest of the nose. There's a high-toned bright red cherry that stands out, but then quickly gets swept away into the dense and rich brambley rest of the nose. The palate is darker and richer than the nose would have you believe, with some dense and chewy tarry tobacco below all the fruited layers along with an intensely earthy hit near the finish. All together really interesting in the best of ways.
