The aptly-named Tertio de Montrose is the estate's third wine, after Dame de Montrose and their Grand Vin. It is crafted from the younger vines on the estate and sees a bit less new oak and a higher proportion of Merlot. But it is from their famed vineyards, made by the same winemaking team, and the result is a compelling wine of character, depth, and accessibility. Aromas of bright raspberry and red florals lead the way. The palate dances with bright acidity and minerality, fresh blackberry and crisp cherry, but there's an impressive texture and refinement underneath. Montrose is certainly one of my all-time favorites, and their Dame de Montrose is one of the great, high-quality second wines from anywhere in Bordeaux. It's no surprise that the Tertio also delivers at such a high level, especially in a banner Left Bank vintage like 2019.
