2015 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques"

Review Date: 01/2018Here the wood treatment is again agreeably subtle though not invisible on the ripe and fresh sauvage-inflected aromas of wild dark berries, violet and newly turned earth. There is excellent volume to the rich and well-muscled flavors that also display abundant minerality on the youthfully austere finale. This should amply reward a decade of cellaring and will need at least 5 to 6 years first. In a word, excellent. *Outstanding*

Bright red-ruby. Expressive aromas of blackberry, cassis and violet. Then juicy and penetrating on the palate, with the flavors of blackberry, violet and spice showing more mineral energy and combe influence than the Craipillot. Sharply delineated, perfumed and long on the finish, with a solid acid/tannin spine to support aging. Like most of these wines, this premier cru will need time to absorb its oak element. (ST)
