2022 Domaine d'Abrigeon "Petit Champ" Côtes-du-Rhône
92
Decanter
Review Date: 01/2023Full-bodied, generous and rich in fruit, with plenty of blackberry notes this year. Furry tannins and well-balanced acidity. A very drinkable style of Côtes du Rhône with an inner straightness and freshness. No Serre de Case made in 2022. From a vineyard in Buisson. (MW)

Notes
The village of Buisson was once a lesser desired site in the Southern Rhone. Sitting on the northern slope of the same hill where the south facing Rasteau and Cairanne lie, this was the cooler side where fruit didn't always achieve maximum ripeness. Nadia and Julien d’Abrigeon saw potential though and were looking for affordable land in the south. They dreamed of creating a biodynamic estate and this cooler site and 80+ year old established vines checked the right boxes for them. Julien had started his journey as a geologist but wanted to work closer to nature. He shifted to the wine industry working in Bordeaux, New Zealand and even Switzerland. He most recently was working for Jean-Louis Chave in Tain l'Hermitage until he and Nadia began on this project. At the beginning they were selling most of their fruit to Jean-Louis for his "Mon Coeur" Cotes du Rhone but in 2021 they produced their first wine. They now farm 8 hectares, all certified organic and are working on their biodynamic certification. "Petit Champ" is 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah
