Review Date: 10/2024Crafted from vines planted in clay and limestone soils, Cécile Chassagne's 2022 Gigondas exhales aromas of spices, pepper, dark cherries and mulberries. Medium to full-bodied, enrobing and layered, it's dense and framed by structured tannins that remain elegant and velvety, concluding with a long, elegant finish. This blend of 80% Grenache Noir, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, vinified with whole bunches, was matured for six months in used barrels and large barrels. (YC)

Notes
Named for the family's second-generation winemaker, Cécile Chassagne took over the vineyard in Gigondas that had been originally planted by her father in 1970. This blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah is made in a traditional method without destemming. A long fermentation in open-topped wood tanks is followed by aging the wine for four months in large Allier oak casks. The resulting wine is a medium-bodied, meaty, and elegant expression of Gigondas terroir.
