Reviewed January 2024Succulent musk melon and Mirabelle tart zoom from the glass. The palate offers more of the same with additional nuances of graham cracker crust. There is noticeable mid-palate chewiness here, but the medium weight is effortlessly lifted by zinging acidity. No new oak is used here

More lemon than lime in colour, can I detect the blue clay in the nose? White fruit, with a touch of apple and fresh citrus. The wine extends beautifully across the palate, biding its time, a light touch of wood helping rather than hindering its expression. A controlled weight of fruit, with an attractive finish. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted: May 2023.

The 2022 Chablis Fôret 1er Cru has a cohesive and quite compelling bouquet: citrus peel, gunflint, a little more reductive than Raveneau's other cuvées but gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry, quite taut, linear and stricter than I expected with an uncompromising saline finish. Excellent.(NM)

Note: from a .67 ha holding that averages 35 years of age. Very firm reduction renders the nose impossible to fairly assess. Otherwise, there is better volume and richness to the more powerful bigger-bodied flavors that are muscular though not especially refined, all wrapped in a stony, clean and markedly dry finale that is shaped by lemon-tinged acidity. I especially like the length and this should age effortlessly over the next decade.
