This is such a crazy store and honestly, it's a first for us. A lost barrel, left in a warehouse, but my ambition to buy Ardmore undeterred. When our order was being packed a quick simple email, "we're sending the other Ardmore we forgot to send last year!" What the?!? Oh well, that creates a total weird and wonderful situation of being able to taste identical whiskies right next to each other. And to be perfectly honest this whisky is so wild and weird it stands out like a sore thumb next to the classic, smoldering peated Highlander that is the 14 year. Let's have a go. The color is pale gold (.03). The nose is a huge bucket of weird herbs, fresh jalapeno, sweet sugar candies and odd green smoke. It's got so much chili it's just totally unusual. You're half expecting it to be spicy on the palate and there's still some wild jalapeno there, but the capsicum never shows up. Instead, its fennel, roasted lemons, dill, camphor and honey. A totally weird and wonderful whiskies that is completely enhanced by the side by side with the much more classically styled sister cask.
