Casa Mouraz is a small project that is based in the wild mountainous region of Dão. They were one of the early advocates in the region for organics and sustainable practices as well as biodynamics. All their wines are made in a mix of modern in traditional, they use traditional techniques but using modern equipment. They only use native yeasts, the wines are foot trodden, seeking lighter extractions, and they use chestnut flowers to stabilize the wine instead of using sulfur. Planet Mouraz is a project that started with fruit that was grown outside of the appellation, hence the “Portugal” this is sourced from vineyards from within Dao however they don’t want to change the label to give them future flexibility. Palhete is a red and white grape co-ferment, in this case a 50/50 mix. There are more than 20 varietals that are co-planted and co-harvested, this region is famous for its field blends. This is a delicately colored wine that is intensely aromatic, and vibrantly flavored. High toned red berries, with floral and herbal accents backed by darker fruits and an earthy minerality.
