2021 Rene Rostaing "La Landonne" Cote-Rotie
94
Decanter
Review Date: 09/2022Graphite, iron and pencil lead come before the blackberry fruit here – a very mineral aromatic expression, almost austere. Medium-bodied but with good presence on the palate and some sweetness to the berry fruits. A compact, dry and mineral expression. La Landonne is always strict, but this really is austere. The whole-bunch element is marked, and the tannins are fine and plentiful but very tense and dry. (MW)

The 2021 Côte Rôtie La Landonne is a solid step up and has a medium-bodied, fresh, focused style as well as textbook La Landonne notes of smoky black fruits, ground pepper, and some meaty notes, as well as a beautiful rose petal-like character in the background. It's balanced and has fine tannins and outstanding length.

Shows a stream of blue and black fruit, layered with floral notes and a subtle kiss of vanilla. Fresh, with a frame of iron giving shape to the creamy palate, which reveals wafts of mesquite smoke and cool minerality. Medium-weight and long, this is well-meshed through the finish, with refined yet persistent tannins that have a firm hold. (KB)

The 2021 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne offers a red-fruited profile paired with pencil shavings, meaty undertones and a marked herbaceous streak. Framed by firm tannins and balanced by refreshing acidity, the 2021 hits the palate with juicy red fruits and great intensity. (NM)
