Reviewed November 202280% pedicel along with a few fatter grapes from rows by the wall which have been destemmed. One new barrel in 4.5. Mid purple colour, with a backward nose from this sturdy terroir. Dense ripe dark raspberry fruit, powerful even at the front of the palate, more complex behind as the stems and acidity play their part alongside the ripe tannins.

The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is aged in 20% new oak with two-thirds whole bunches (pédicelles). This has a scintillating bouquet with mineral-rich red fruit that bursts from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly candied entry, fine definition, maybe just missing the complexity on the finish that the aromatics deserve? One to watch in bottle. (NM)

An exuberantly fresh if earthy, cool and brooding nose exhibits notes of red berry fruit, floral and a hint of the sauvage. The dense, highly energetic and muscular larger-bodied flavors are supported by firm but refined tannins that are unusually fine in the context of the appellation before concluding in a focused, long, serious and moderately austere finish. This could use better depth, but more should develop with time in bottle.

The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of plums, rose petals, spices, grilled meats, orange zest and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, it's an unusually sensual, giving rendition of this sometimes austere cru. (WK)
