A bold and earthy wine, the 2019 Chianti Classico is entirely Sangiovese was aged for 15 months in used Slavonian oak botti. It offers complex aromas of baked black cherry, saddle leather, and damp forest soil and has purity on the palate as well as a full texture, with warming fruit of spiced plum and plush tannins, though it is not weighted down. This impressive red has a lot packed into it. (AF)

In the upper reaches of Panzano, Vecchie Terre di Montefili counts 12.5 hectares. Since 2015, the estate is owned by an American/Italian partnership with winemaker and agronomist, Serena Gusmeri leading the charge in the cellar. Crafted from vines planted in the late '90s, this annata doles out ripe dark cherry and black raspberry, with woodsy nuances around the edges. Vanilla and mint show up on the fully charged palate, along with sturdy and boldly extracted tannins. Best of all is the penetrating acidity that chimes throughout. (MM)

Made with 100% Sangiovese, the 2019 Chianti Classico manages an inky dark color that is unusual for this grape. The bouquet embraces elegant and tapered aromas with blackberry, wild cherry and crushed mineral. Those tones are lifted and bright with a hint of dried cherry or grape skin, but the wine offers plenty of Tuscan character. (ML)
Staff Reviews

The 2019 Vecchie Terre di Montefili Chianti Classico is a beautiful expression of a true natural Sangiovese, crafted with precision following natural and organic practices. The fermentation is spontaneous, the sulfites level is lower than most, and the grapes are grown with organic practices. This led Montelifi to be considered one of Tuscany’s most exciting boutique estates. Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, high in the hills of Panzano, more specifically in the Conca D’Oro (Golden Besin), is the epicenter of the Chianti Classico appellation.
The wine opens with a remarkable bouquet of dark cherries, wild strawberries, and cranberries, accented by notes of dried violets, wood, and a hint of herbs.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, really well balanced, it has gorgeous silky tannins and brilliant acidity that comes together in a wine that highlights the purity of the fruit.
The vineyard sits at an altitude of 500 meters, the galestro and alberese soils lend the wines to be fresh, elegant, and depth, a true chianti taste.
For the ones looking for a real taste of some of the best Sangiovese vineyards in Chianti, this is it. It is hard to find a 100% Sangiovese Chianti of this caliber.

This rich, bold Sangiovese is uplifted by a vibrant clean acidity to balance out the firm grip of the tannins. You won't want to miss out on this flavor-packed expression of Tuscany's iconic and distinctive character.
