Allen Meadows of Burghound notes: "Gérard Harmand, and his son Philippe, run this 9 ha domaine (that owns the rarely seen monopole of La Bossière) where a great deal of progress has been made in the last few years since my last visit. As Gérard explained, this father-son team are trying to make wines with more elegance and finesse, noting that "we have never made rustic wines but for me, they just lacked a little spark they needed to lift the mouth feel and overall sense of balance, as it concerned the structural elements and in particular, the quality of the tannins. So, we are paying more attention to getting the finest grapes we can and then spending a lot more time assessing what they can give us in the context of any given growing season. For example, we now are sorting in the vineyard and then again when the grapes arrive via a sorting table. We're working now more with pumping over the must to extract tannins than actual punch downs. Another change is that all machine-driven pumps have been banished from the cuvérie as we became convinced that they were too rough on the must and new wines."
