A normal Zinfandel-dominated blend of 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, 10% Petite Sirah, and the rest Mataro, the 2022 Geyserville sports a healthy ruby/plum hue (it's semi-opaque) as well as a rocking nose of ripe plums, blackberries, roasted herbs, pepper, and violets. It's beautifully textured on the palate and has medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, and perfectly ripe tannins. It's a beauty, as well as one of the standouts in the lineup in 2022. Don't miss it.

Ridge has been making the Geyserville since 1966, a true Zinfandel icon with a readiness to drink now and classic Ridge ageability. This wine is made as a field blend, spending 16 months in American oak, and only 28% is new. Rich fruit aromas, with pungent spices, ripe red and black plums, Christmas spices and notes of smoked cinnamon. The palate offers a fresh acidity which buoys the ripe blackberries and spicy black plums. There's plenty of structure for this wine to go the distance, typical of the house style (at least a decade).

This zinfandel-dominant field blend is ripe, delicious and lush, with light, spicy oak accents over plump blackberries, blueberries and vanilla bean. Saturated and opulent but not fat, as moderate tannins and some raspberry-like acidity balance the full body. 67% zinfandel, 20% carignan, 10% petite sirah and 3% mataro.

The 2022 Geyserville is a blend of 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah and 3% Mataro. It has kaleidoscopic aromas of boysenberry jam, grilled beef, dried lavender, iron, violet and peach. The medium-bodied palate features generous, floral flavors. It has a silky texture, bursts of mouthwatering acidity and a long, spicy finish. The 2022 is notably polished, and its 20% new American oak is very well integrated.

Ridge Vineyards' Geyserville bottling is a true icon of the California wine business. Coming from the oldest block of vines that Ridge owns and farms, planted in 1882! Not only are the vines ancient, but Geyserville it is also one of the longest running labels at Ridge being made every year since 1966. The core of the wine is based around these 140+ yr old Zinfandel and Carignan, with smaller amounts of inter-planted Petite Sirah and Mataro (Mourvedre). An exhaustive debate continues about whether or not old vines make better wines...I won't get too deep into that here, however, I will say that there appears to be plenty of evidence (right here in this bottle for one) that these centurion vines do seem to handle extreme weather events better than younger vines. In 2022 northern California experienced a prolonged "heat dome" event where temperatures soared into the 110-120F range and stayed there for several days. Perhaps it's the old head-trained pruning method that shades the fruit, perhaps it's the huge, deep root systems, or perhaps just some kind of unexplained wisdom the vines poses, but vineyards like Geyserville behaved like they had "been there, done that" and took the excruciating heat in their stride. The other beautiful thing about these ancient, field blend plantings is that grapes like late-ripening Carigan provide a core of acid during hot years when Zinfandel starts to get uber-ripe. Petite Sirah helps with deep color and some powerful tannins. All these things juts make perfect sense when you experience a wine like this from a world-class vineyard, farmed by a team with diligent practice and a deep respect for the vines and their balance. The 2022 Geyserville from Ridge shouldn't be missed. We struck a great deal on this wine and are passing one some much appreciated savings to you. Cheers!

Ridge is one of my favorite California wineries and the Geyserville Zinfandel blend never disappoints. Even in super hot 2022 when a sun loving grape like Zinfandel can ripen to an extraordinary degree, Ridge has kept the genie in the bottle, so to speak. Balanced, opulent, round, and plush, this is a seamless gastronomic wine begging to be a staple at summer BBQs. Ripe dark black fruit, chocolate, herbs and spices, hints of oak, coconut, and sweet vanilla - this wine has everything! Easy (way too easy) to drink with a lip smacking long finish. As my teenager would say, it's a W (win)!

The "22 Geyserville has a cheerful nose of plums, dried figs and currants together with hints of savory herbs and chai spices on the nose. All around tasty mouthfeel with berries and soft tannins. This vintage tastes lively, vibrant, lengthy. This is perfect for everyday enjoyment. Drink now!
