Reviewed July 2023The 2021 Marine Layer Vineyard Chardonnay comes from 1.2 acres planted with the Wente clone in 2021, and only 200 cases are made. It needs a bit of shaking to wake up notions of lime cordial, green mango, and yellow apples with hints of chalk dust, honeysuckle, and shaved almonds. The medium-bodied palate is taut and chalky with beautiful tension and a long savory finish. it needs time but should age beautifully. (LPB)

The 2021 Chardonnay Marine Layer Vineyard is dense and unctuous in the glass. Apricot, tangerine peel, mint and baked apple tart are all amplified. This heady, racy Chardonnay is seriously impressive. Tropical overtones and a kiss of new French oak lead into the layered, sumptuous finish. This is one of the best wines I have tasted from Marine Layer. Superb. (AG)

Golden apple, quince and acacia followed by salted butter, pie crust and baking spices. Medium-bodied, refreshing acidity with underling salty minerality. Aged for 11 months in 35% 500L puncheon. Limited production of only 150 cases. Beautiful harmony and crispness. Drink or hold.
