It is only with time that the uncanny dominance of this vineyard becomes apparent. Initially somewhat restrained, the wine is starting to show a lovely complexity with ripe cherry, plum, and pomegranate fruit aromas and complexity from floral notes and hints of spice, smoke, and earth. The texture is dense and compact, giving the sense that there is great depth and that this wine will age for decades. Along with its stablemate La Tâche, this is among the triumphs of the vintage. While the La Tâche might be more accessible today, the Romanée-Conti has more ultimate potential. Picked 25 September; 4,835 bottles produced.(CC)

The 2021 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is the most integrated and complex—that's to say, hard to describe—wine in the range. Wafting from the glass with scents of sweet red berries, exotic spices, espresso roast, rose petals and violets, with only subtle hints of the coniferous bass-notes that mark out many of the other cuvées this year, it's full-bodied, pure and seamless, with an exquisitely suave, harmonious palate that effortless integrates vibrant acids, melting tannins and intense retronasal perfume. Concluding with a mouthwateringly saline finish, this is a wine that will delight, even enchant, Burgundy purists.(WK)

Dazzling on the nose with wild forest berries, Marasca cherries, brewed coffee, brown spice and rose buds, this is almost "loud" it is so forwardly aromatic. The structure is well-knit and robust, yet it feels as if is just slightly sticks out from the impressively concentrated, roaringly youthful fruit. This is majestic, bewitching and long on flavor. A remarkable wine, de Villaine says that this will stay in barrel longer than the others.

Perhaps due to a “normal yield,” the Romanée-Conti is fleshy and rich, yet also silky and firm. Complex aromas and flavors of green rose, strawberry, cherry and mineral prevail on the concentrated profile and superlong finish

Notes

94 points, Antonio Galloni for Vinous: "The 2021 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru wafts across the palate with haunting aromatics and tons of sheer aristocratic beauty. It's like a bespoke suit or couture dress in which the details are present, but also incredibly subtle and only really evident to the discerning eye. I realize that might sound haughty, but I don't know of any other way to describe the 2021. It's a wine of haunting beauty that is classic Romanée-Conti in its mix of elusiveness and sheer allure."
