Note: from 85+ year old vines. More moderate though still prominent wood sets off aromas of plum liqueur, earth, a suggestion of the sauvage and a variety of pretty floral elements. There is again excellent volume to the sappy and seductively textured yet powerful medium-bodied flavors that firm up substantially on the beautifully long finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. The 2022 Pommard Les Chaponnières 1er Cru contains 30% whole bunches and was raised in 40% new French oak. The nose offers brambly red fruit, hints of graphite and an endearing sense of Pinoté; this is more elegant than the Chanlins. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins and fresh acidity. Again, a little powdery in texture with a long tail on the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.(NM)
