Parent’s dazzling 2022 Corton Les Renardes is my definition of quintessential Burgundy – flavour without weight. You feel the effect of 100% new oak ageing – a luxurious suaveness – without sensing its presence. It has a bit of everything; ripe pure fruit, savoury nuances, captivating aromatics and terrific length and freshness, all enrobed in a suave texture. The flavours and support are perfectly integrated, making this a captivating harmonious wine. In contrast to Parent’s Pommard, Anne used 100% whole bunch (no destemming), which she thinks helps account for the wine’s stunning aromatics and elegance. With her usual modesty, Anne says: 'It took me a decade plus to understand Corton'. Well, she clearly gets it now! (MA)

Note: 100% whole cluster and 100% new wood. Very generous wood fights somewhat with the overtly floral-suffused aromas of black cherry, cassis, kirsch and whiffs of the sauvage. There is excellent volume and mid-palate density to the muscular larger-bodied flavors that exude both evident power and minerality on the sappy, balanced and very much built-to-age finale. This is woody at present but there appears to be more than sufficient underlying material to progressively integrate it.

The 2022 Corton les Renardes Grand Cru is 100% whole bunches and 100% new French oak. It has a superb bouquet - you cannot tell the stems are here at all. Very floral with dried rose petals, a touch of lavender and pure red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly chalky tannins. The oak is more prominent towards the finish and will require several years to assimilate fully.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Round, cushioned, concentrated, complex – but easy to appreciate too. I really don’t see either the 100% wc or the 100% new barrels! Less width than the Epenots but just as juicy and in this case more melting and complex. 100% and 100% plus it’s Corton – but I could drink this today! Beautifully textured and involving – the concentration never wearing, a little marvel – bravo! ‘Corton is an enigma – it’s underestimated on one hand, overestimated on the other‘" (01/2024)
