James Suckling
Review Date: 11/2021Aromas of dried flowers, black cherries and dried strawberries follow through to a medium to full body with very fine tannins that coat the mouth. From organically grown grapes. Fresh, bright and very drinkable now, but will be even better in 2023.

The remarkably pretty 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Moz Art Wine wafts up with a mix of lavender, violets and rose before giving way to red currants and hints of cedar. This silky, polished effort impresses further with cool-toned wild berry fruits contrasted by saline-minerals that create a more savory impression toward the finale. It finishes fresh with a subtle coating of tannins, as hints of blueberry skins, cinnamon and salted licorice fade. A lovely rendition of the 2017 vintage. (EG)

The winery is in the northern portion of Montalcino and abuts one of our favorites Poggiarellino, it shows a bit of Old School feel in this wine taking one back to the era before fruit bombs to the earthier aromatics, dried flowers, dried herbs, oyster shell, lots of spice, celery seed, coriander. On the palate the wine continues the Old School theme with porcini dust, leather and some dried cherry then framed with very fine tannins. Good weight and balance while the lingering flavors drive the wine back to a strong finish. The Moz-Art reference in this wine refers to the music played in the vineyards during the ripening, perhaps you’re a fan of classical music! The wine needs a strong dish to accompany like a braised beef or pork and I would decant it for 2- 3 hours.

The 2017 Il Paradiso draws me in from the start from its classic Brunello aromatics. There is a mixture of dried red berries, bundled poultry herbs, blood orange zest, and iron-rich dusty soil. The mouthfeel is mildly grippy, savory, and fresh. There is a good amount of round acidity and weighty texture. The profile of this wine leans towards what you would need for long-term aging. But you can buy and hold for this upcoming Thanksgiving dinner just be sure to decant for 2-3 hours before the start of the main course.
