2014 l'Esprit de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

I took a flyer on this, knowing that Chevalier made a brilliant Grand Vin in 2014, and their l'Espirit is always sneaky good. Tasting it, I immediately had a smile on my face, as it delivered on all accounts, and then some. Good deep red fruits on the nose, which follows on the palate with cherry, blackberry, and cedar. But what really stands out is how serious this wine is - the texture, flavor, depth, and finish all speak to a wine that far above this price point. At ten years past the vintage, it is drinking perfectly, but I wouldn't hesitate to see how it continues to evolve over the next decade. A sleeper value of the highest order in aged Bordeaux.
