This Bourgueil is like a slow kiss at the end of a Friday night. The wine has a nose of blackberry, sweet baking spices, strawberry, red raspberry and rosehip. A concentrated midpalate rewards your senses and encourages you to lean in further into a wine that finishes with a soothing finish. *Best Buy* (RS)

The wines of Bourgueil (bore-guy) offer some of the best QPR in the realm of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. And Cab Franc is always one of my favorite grape varieties for everyday drinking. With their floral aromatics, complex palate profile and medium-bodied texture, they are - to my taste - some of the best food pairing wines. The wines of Domaine les Pins continue to rank at the top of my value list. All estate fruit, fermented and aged in tank (no oak here), showing great purity of Cabernet Franc fruit. This new release is another reason why I keep going back to this producer. This is a clean, beautiful red with classic black cherry fruit, notes of crushed sage, violets and a hint of black olive. Lower in alcohol too, so that second glass is within reach but not withering for mid-week drinking. Definitely worth adding a few of these to your next order to round out your daily drinking rotation.

This is one for all the Cab Franc fans (like myself) out there. A pure, unadorned expression bursting with juicy black currant, cherries, violets and fresh bay leaf, with a hint of green peppercorn in the finish. So refreshing and incredibly pleasing. An excellent value! Serve cool and casual.

Notes

A rich ruby red with notes of violets and red berry fruits, this Cabernet Franc is nicely layered on the palate with brightness running throughout and just a touch of smoke mixed in with some purple fruits. Soft waves of mineral with a nice soft tannin make this a true delight to drink. Domaine les Pins has been family run for five generations. They are a small artisanal producer that oversees every stage of production from start to finish themselves. They have roughly 30 hectares of Cabernet Franc spread out through the Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations, and practice sustainable farming with each and every vine getting singular attention throughout the year. Vines of an average age of 25 years have been planted in sandy, clay and gravelly soils. After harvest, grapes are de-stemmed, sorted and put into tank to begin spontaneous fermentation. After being pressed off and letting malolactic fermentation happen, the wine is put into concrete tank for at least 10 months prior to bottling.
