The Derot family was the first to plant Chardonnay out on the Western edge of the Marne valley, and the name "Hors Pair" means out of the ordinary, which it is to have a blanc de blanc from this area. It is all estate grown, and entirely fermented in enamel lined iron tanks with an extra year of elevage in those tanks before bottling. It is then aged for three years on the lees, giving the wine an airy, lovely, clean style that is far to easy to drink. -Gary Westby, K&L
