Bright, crisp, tangy and black fruited (yes, black!), this is a delicious, lively and deceptively powerful wine. It has the same shape, style and minerality of a modern Monthélie, with herbs, spices and a fair old dollop of flashy oak. Peninsula still represents some of the most compelling value for money in the world if you are, like me, obsessed with the Pinot Noir grape. (MJ)

How good is this for the price! Juicy, aromatic, vibrant and punchy. A mull of bing cherry, orange rind and clove. Mid-weighted and of immense appeal, best served with a brief chill. Drink now. (NG)

Just south of Melbourne across the Port Phillip Bay lies the windswept, cool climate Pinot Paradise of the Mornington Peninsula, where wines of pure freshness and energy can be crafted with the ocean breezes flowing north from the Bass Strait. This chilly oceanic outlook brings the wines from Paringa an immediate sense of lift, with vine-fresh black fruit aromatics jumping from the glass. An unshakable core of acidity carries this fresh fruit up and down the palate, with dashes of pomegranate juice and plump black cherry to balance the cold climate brightness. If you typically imagine Australian Reds as being heavy handed and regally rich, hop across Melbourne and across the Bay to the chilly restraint of the Mornington Penninsula - freshness awaits!

Juicy and fresh, the Paringa Peninsula Pinot Noir is a lot of wine for the money. With lifted aromatics of orange zest and blackberry, and racy, mouthwatering acidity, this has all the purity and freshness that you could want from a cool climate Pinot. On the palate, rich red cherry flavors are complemented by river rock minerality and a delicate dusting of toasty oak. Lovers of cool-climate Pinot Noir at reasonable prices should not overlook this fantastic find from Down Under!
