Review Date: 01/2023Note: from a .45 ha parcel of 80+ year old vines. Here too there is enough reduction to render the nose impossible to properly read. The sleek and beautifully concentrated flavors are filled with both fine detail and underlying tension, all wrapped in a moderately austere, complex and strikingly long finale. Excellent potential.

Fresh purple, looking promising but thus far not so much bouquet. Swelling fruit on the palate, evidently much more weight than the two other Cortons without overdoing it. Ripe cherries and just the right amount of tannins behind. Drink from 2029-2036.

For me, this delicious wine was the pick of Méo’s three Cortons (there is also a Perrières and a Vigne au Saint). The colour is dark and pronounced, accessible raspberry fruit aromas with a strong mineral cast provide the first impression. The flavours continue to expand on the palate, with floral notes gracing the rich, densely tannic wine. Méo reports no loss due to frost in this protected site – his portion of Le Rognet et Corton is a walled Clos planted to vines nearly a century old. (CC)

The 2021 Corton Clos Rognet Grand Cru is expressive and pretty on the nose with quite vivacious red berry fruit laced with wilted rose petal and blueberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, fresh and saline, a discrete crescendo towards the finish. What a lovely Corton Clos Rognet (which incidentally does have a wall around it.) (NM)
