2021 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
96
Tim Atkin
Review Date: 01/2023With 3 hectares, Méo-Camuzet is the second largest proprietor in this Grand Cru after Château de la Tour. There's a good chunk near the château as well as a smaller part in Le Grand Maupertui. The 80% new oak stands out now, both with toasted spice lift and lightly grainy tannins. Granted, there's no rush; at the domaine, they don't start drinking this until eight years post-vintage. In time, the robust and concentrated black fruit core will easily absorb the wood. 2028-45.

Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "In 2009 and 2017 there were two cuvées – Grand Maupertuis plus the vines in front of the château – all other vintages have been an assembly of all their vines. Perfume at the centre of this nose – there’s red fruit too but more perfume. More scale in the mouth – beautiful waves of wide, fresh, mouth-watering flavour. Then expanding in the finish before slowly fading. In scale, you can easily see the move to grand cru here."
