The 2021 Petite Chapelle chez Trapet is yet another outstanding premier cru in the making. Tasting this wine soon after the En Ergot, once can sense the great mineral depth of Petite Chapelle from the mother rock of limestone here (which is the same as that found in the grand cru of Chapelle-Chambertin, just up the slope from both of these premier crus). The 2021 version is outstanding wine, offering up a deep and extremely promising nose of red and black cherries, black plums, cigar wrapper, a beautifully complex base of soil, sweet stem tones, gamebird, coffee bean and a deft touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is precise, pure and deep, with its full-bodied format supported by suave tannins, a great core of fruit, lovely transparency and grip and a long, complex and very refined finish. I love this terroir! (Drink between 2035-2090)

The Trapets' finest premier cru this year is the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle, a medium to full-bodied, suave and elegant wine redolent of dark berries, licorice, sweet soil tones and petals. Ample and fleshy, it's supple and seamless, with beautifully refined tannins. (WK)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru is slightly spicier and more savoury than Trapet's other cuvées, light chalky scents percolating through the dark berry fruit. The palate is well balanced with a slightly gourmand entry, quite insistent in terms of grip, fine acidity with a liberal sprinkling of black pepper towards the finish that is somewhat austere and deserves time in bottle. Very promising. (NM)

Mid crimson colour. Some weight of fruit, not quite the freshest bouquet. Length and presence in the mouth. I am beginning to understand this vineyard better. About tensile strength and finesse. Complex and stylish. Very good. Drink from 2026-2032.
