Note: made with a 50/50 mix of gamay and pinot A fresh, earthy and peppery nose of cool red berries leads to vibrant and nicely detailed flavors that are supported by bright but not drying acidity on the mildly rustic finale that is firm enough to warrant 2 to 3 years of keeping.

The Minima bottling is a mix of Gamay and Pinot Noir, with the usual proportions being two-thirds of the former and one-third of the latter in a normal vintage. However, because of the frost damage in this vineyard, which only produced twelve hectoliters per hectare, the blend is more fifty-fifty this year, as the small crop in their Bourgogne rouge parcels also went into the Minima. This bottling was also raised in foudres in 2021 and offers up a fine nose of dark berries, Gamay peppery tones, espresso, a touch of whole clusters, dark soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and really has good depth at the core, with a nice sense of reserve, good grip and just a whisper of backend tannin. (Drink between 2024-2035)

This cuvée is normally two-thirds Gamay, but this year 55% pinot because what would have been the Bourgogne pinot was switched to A Minima after heavy frost damage. No sulphur will be added until the bottling. Mid purple, with a very lively fruit, pure raspberry note, savoury and sensual at the same time, with a pinpoint finish. Fresh crunchy finish. Drink from 2024-2026.

Offering up aromas of sweet raspberries and berries, the 2021 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain A Minima is medium-bodied, supple and tangy, with powdery tannins and a bright, mouthwatering finish. This Gamay-Pinot Noir blend had just been racked to tank when I tasted it. (WK)
