2017 Rocca Family "Vespera - Grigsby Vineyard " Yountville Proprietary Red
91
James Suckling
Review Date: 12/2020Charming nose of dark fruit, violets and chalk. Some chocolate, too. It’s medium-bodied and savory with an inky note and firm tannins. Energetic finish with fresh acidity. Drink or hold.

Notes
Entirely estate grown in the Rocca family's organically farmed Grigsby Vineyard in Yountville. The vines sit right on the boarder with Stags Leap District. Directly across the road lies Cliff Lede's iconic Poetry Vineyard. Just to the east is Kapcsandy's State Lane Estate. This is top quality dirt for growing powerful, ageworthy wines. The Vespera (meaning "evening") is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. It's designed to be expressive and versatile at the dinning table, possessing a nice balance of fruit, structure, and gravelly, volcanic minerality. Aged 22 months in 60% new French oak. Just 500cs total production.
