2017 Ordaz Family Wines "Montecillo Vineyard" Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes
From hand-selected parcels of old vine Cabernet high on Moon Mountain in the famed Montecillo Vineyard. Planted in the late 1960s at an 1,800-ft. elevation, this site produces some of the most distinctive and sought-after Cabernet in the state. This bottling also happens to be the namesake wine of the vineyard's longtime caretaker and veteran grape grower Jesus "Chuy" Ordaz. I think it's fair to assume he knows what blocks of fruit give the purest characters of this site and that knowledge is reflected in this stunning bottle of wine. A wonderfully aromatic wine with pure Cabernet notes of small, dark berry fruits, graphite, juniper, mulberry, and wild thyme. The palate is full and dense but there is an elegance to the wine, nothing saturated or sweet. This is old-school mountain fruit, with firm tannins that fan out on the finish with wonderfully savory, woodsy spices and earth. Drink now with a decant or keep for the next decade plus with confidence. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Wine Buyer)
