All Cabernet Sauvignon from two blocks on the estate, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin spent 20 months in 92% new French oak, with the balance in once-used barrels, and Napa Valley doesn t get any classier. This beauty is inky hued and displays a pure, powerful, full-bodied style in its cassis and black raspberry-driven fruit profile as well as notes of tobacco, graphite, spicy oak, and espresso roast. The purity is off the charts, it's concentrated, flawlessly balanced, and has incredible length. This gem deserves 5-7 years of bottle age and will have 30-40 years of overall longevity.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard is a blend of two Cabernet Sauvignon parcels, both planted to Clone 191. Marked by classic scents of pencil shavings, cassis, cherries and gentle herbal nuances, it's full-bodied, rich and velvety on the palate, with a long, dusty, firm finish. Given the superb showing of the 2018 (made from higher yields), I suspect my rating may be conservative. (JC)
