I've really grown to enjoy Gruner Veltliner during my time here at K&L, before here I really didn't come across them too much maybe a wine list here and there but it was never really something that compelled me. Tasting the different ones brought in by our Austrian buyer Alex Pross really has enlightened me to how pretty and enjoyable they can be. This is fairly straightforward and accessible, but that's exactly what you want from something entry-level. The nose has some lemon custard and touches of that classic celery note that Alex brings up often, but there's some white peach and a really nice river stone minerality. The palate is crisp and clean and pretty, very citrusy with just a little bit of stone fruit mixed in, really nice but not aggressive acidity. This is exactly what you want when you aren't sure what you want. It's easy and could be had with food but doesn't need it to be invited to the party, it's just a party for two, you and the Gruner. Chicken, fish, and salad. Easy peasy, this is just such a friendly bottle of wine.
