The 2018 WCS Tannat, purple-black in color, takes time to show its blue and red berry fruits and alluring accents of garrigue and purple flowers, chargrill and graphite. The full-bodied palate is very pretty, with lush fruits supported by surprisingly silt-like tannins and seamless acidity carrying the long, floral finish. (EB)

An inky hue in the glass, this bottling of a grape that's still rather rare in California begins with roasted black-plum and black-currant aromas along with black cardamom. It lands with hefty, unctuous power on the palate, as the black-cherry and clove flavors are balanced by a stony tension. (MK)
