A brisk fresh lemon colour. The bouquet is appealing, apple and citrus, without the lime notes of vineyards higher on the hill. Beautifully balanced, both nuanced and with points of energy, ripe fruit without undue flesh, racy and long. Drink from 2027-2036.

Such a classic Puligny, this starts with a dusting of white spring flowers and crushed yellow apples. The scintillating, heady acidity carries the mid-weight palate into a reasonably long finish with hints of rockpool. In the deep cellar of Sauzet Premier Cru wines, this may be among the best to drink first given its open-knit texture.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with hints of white peach and vanilla infusing the crushed limestone scents. Very precise. The palate is linear and taut, but there is real weight here. With impressive harmony and quite a suave finish, this sashays along with style and delivers a delicious, peppery aftertaste. Excellent. Note: from vines planted in 1986 and located in very compact and rocky soil. Smoky aromas of mineral reduction, acacia blossom and green apple gives way to almost painfully intense middle weight flavors that are decidedly citrusy while displaying excellent length on the bone-dry, stony and balanced finale. At least some patience is strongly recommended as this is very tightly wound at present.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A suggestion of oak then a very lovely floral perfume – a great invitation! Not the largest volume in the mouth there’s a core of mineral and vibrant flavour – it almost buzzes on the palate.I love this – slowly fading and melting over the palate. That’s a great Perrières."
