The Fournaux vineyard is located very close to the famous Vergelesses vineyard on a slight slope with a Southwest facing. Known for producing elegant wines the 2022 Domaine Jean Michel Giboulot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Fournaux" has breathtaking aromas of cherry, raspberry and freshly picked flowers with a complex and elegant palate that reveals pure, sappy red fruit with mineral notes and just a wisp of earth and flowers. This wine is so pretty and approachable while effortlessly feeling light and nervy on the palate. A wonderful example of the pure elegance Savigny-les-Beaune can achieve under the right producer.

Sauvigny Les Beaune is becoming the go-to village for affordable red Burgundy that is also of high quality. This beautiful 2022 has quite ripe dark red fruits with nice dusty tannins and clean (fresh) oak. There is a lingering finish of tart red fruits with ripe cranberry, earth and a teensy bit of orange peel.

Notes

From K&L On the Trail blog: "Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity. The whites are done in a feminine style with rounder fruit and a certain elegance that lingers long on the palate. His domaine holdings outside of Savigny are some of the best in the region with eastern exposures that allow for full ripeness and plumpness of flavor."
