Cyril purchased these east-facing, "50 ares and another five rows" in 2014. The top part was frosted in 2022, but the remaining wine is a treat. Meyer lemon, chamomile and white currants dazzle with their purity and freshness. Mouthwatering acidity laces up the mediumbodied palate.

Cool, restrained nose. Typical Mont de Milieu, with plenty of peachy ripe fruit, freshened by crisp citrus acidity and a mineral edge to finish. Alain Gautheron is based in Fleys.(AH)

85% has been raised in stainless steel, 15% in wood. Clear pale colour. The Mont de Milieu is quite headily perfumed, not too exotic and white rather than yellow peaches. Maybe some honeysuckle. This is broad based but not currently quite in balance despite the saline finish. Drink from 2026-2032.

The Mont De Milieu release in the Gautheron Chablis line is the one that comes across as the most crisp for me. Minerals, flint, clean acid, tart peach and nectarine are the most dominant scents and flavors. There are also background notes of lemon and subtle (clean) oak. Delicious and bound not to stay in stock very long. As an extra added bonus, it will even cellar well, if you are so inclined.

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Vines of 50-60 years of age. 15-20% barrel elevage this year.There’s a breadth of aroma here – but it’s the depth that’s more impressive today. More generous wine but still with tension and a melting style to the the flavours. The fruit is a little like that of the Emeraude. Super wine." (01/2024)
