I love the bouquet of stone fruits, Amalfi lemon, bergamot and licorice. The richness and concentration easily fill out an ample body that’s rare in the 2021 vintage. However, this dry riesling masterpiece remains precise and cool. Glides off into the distance at the long, silky finish. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken GG offers a clear and coolish, precise and refined bouquet of ripe but fresh and elegant Riesling fruit intertwined with lime zest aromas and flinty notes. On the palate, this is a rich, vital and elegant, very complex and mineral, dense and powerful Riesling with enormous grip and tension and a long, saline finish. This is a powerful and extract-rich wine with huge aging potential. Clearly the top wine this year. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022. Wilhelm Weil is enthusiastic about the 2021 vintage. From the end of September, he said it was possible to harvest grapes that were "healthy as a core and rich in extract," which led to "dense cool-climate Rieslings" after the three previous warm vintages (2018–2020). The striking acidity of the vintage is well buffered by the potassium stored in the grapes and allows the Rieslings to shine and dance despite their substance. This was not foreseeable in the fall. But the "enthusiasm curve" rose steeply with the tasting of the young wines in the spring, so Weil is now convinced in the summer that the 2021 vintage will be celebrated in a few years and decades as one of the great ones. For himself, it is also clear that he has not yet processed a better one. (SR)

This white offers an enticing and beautifully balanced mix of nectarine, quince, elderflower and wild hops, backed by a vivid structure. The acidity is electric, fueling the elements and providing a great environment for long-term aging. It lingers with a persistent finish that is filled with mineral and spice that invite you for another sip. Delicious now, but best to save at least for five years. (AZ)

Shows a seductive combination of red apple and quince spiked with clove and coriander, all coated in light honey, tea leaf and warm hay notes. Reveals a subtle tug of bitter tannins that bring balance, alongside ruby grapefruit–laced acidity on the juicy palate toward the persistent finish. Drink now through 2035.

Notes

95pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 51 22. The 2021er Kiedricher Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken GG offers a beautifully elegant and complex nose of anise, William’s pear, tangerine, violet, fine spices, jasmine, and lily flowers. The wine has great energetic lift on the palate, where plenty of ripe zesty citrusy elements make for a very dynamic and pure feel. The finish has great cut and huge length, while there is a great fresh kick of menthol, anise, and grapefruit zest. This Gräfenberg GG is a huge success in 2021! 2026-2041>" (09/2022)
