The creme de la creme of parcels from all of Turnbull's incredible vineyard holdings go into the revered Black Label bottling. Turnbull is one of very few properties in the valley that sticks to a multi-vineyard wine as their flagship bottling believing that having more components at your disposal can ultimately result in a more complete, more complex, layered wine. Winemaker Peter Heitz takes his very favorite micro-blocks of Fortuna and Leopoldina Vineyards and then selects the very finest barrels from them to create one of most iconic wines of the region. Fortuna Vineyard on the eastern edge of Oakville Valley floor makes up 66% of the wine with the remaining 34% coming from the steep, hillsides of Leopoldina in the Vaca Mountains to the east. Luxury and decadence meets power and intensity. Lush polished fruit layers over intense rocky, mountain fruit minerality and structure. The 2021 Black Label is a brooding, powerful wine with incredible depth and intensity on one hand, but beautiful refinement and velvety texture on the other. Creme de cassis, warm blackberry, mulberry compote, dried mountain thyme, exotic oak spice and dark chocolate. The only thing that will stop this ageing 30+ years is someone drinking if before then! A huge wine of density and power, but one that hard to resist for it's purity and delicious primary fruit today.
