This is self-confidently old-fashioned and with good reason. A rich and fleshy Gewurz with plenty of concentration and textural complexity, this is more spicy than exotic with only a hint of the supposedly classic lychee aroma of the grape. Long finish without any hint of warmth in spite of 14.5% alcohol. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Gewurztraminer Pfersigberg Grand Cru was harvested in the very heart of the grand cru, with just 70cm of clay on top of limestone. Rose and peach hints appear on the subtle nose. The palate is rich with the ripest Mirabelle plum, edged with bitter orange pith and almond skin. There is a smooth, peachy sweetness on the aromatic, pleasantly bitter finish. (Medium) (NM)

Much like its Grand Cru Riesling brethren the Charles Baur Pfersigberg Gewurztraminer Grand Cru is a standout wine for less than $27. Any fan of Alsatian Gewurztraminer owes it themselves to pick up a bottle of this divine elixir. Notes of freshly picked, perfectly ripe peaches with intense spice notes in a luxurious palate will blow your mind. The purity and power here mixed with the flawless execution of fruit and spice make this a stunning Gewurztraminer value.

92pts Ian d'Agata Terroir Sense: "Bright straw-gold. Explosively aromatic on the nose and in the mouth, with very pretty floral grapefruit and sweetly spice notes. Very Gewurz and very long on the clean finish. It’s also very typical of this grand cru’s floral, showy Gewurzes. Drinking window: 2023-2029." (10/2023)
