2021 Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre"
95
Decanter
Review Date: 10/2022Droin's vines have an average age of 50 years with 1.75ha on Kimmeridgian marl with some blue-clay (Marne-bleu). As expected from Montée de Tonnerre, this has more power on the palate but also displays a remarkable balance between weight and elegance - 'complet' as Benoit Droin says. It would be a shame to drink this before 2-3 years and it will keep a very long time. Finishes with a vibrant hit spicy zesty fruit. (AH)

Notes
94pts Tim Atkin MW: "I recall that ages ago Benoît declared this the best Premier Cru in Chablis. I certainly can see that in this vintage's edition of this wine, and it definitely will improve with time in the bottle. There is a steeliness to its acidity that meshes nicely with its firm, concentrated and citrusy core. It shows good weight and juiciness with ample grapefruit, yellow currants and cloves.
