Single vineyard, long aged blanc de blancs for this price is unheard of, and the wine in the bottle is even better than the story. This has the high class toasty brioche that only long ageing (7 full years!) can achieve, balanced by a beautiful citric liveliness and a long mineral finish.

If you’re into Chardonnay-based Champagne with a serious mineral core, this Blanc de Blancs from Baron-Fuenté is a great pick. It’s aged for a long time on the lees—seven years—and that gives it complex texture, but the wine stays sharp and focused. You get lemon peel, green apple, and crushed chalk on the nose. The palate is zesty and bright, but there’s also a smooth layer underneath from all that aging—think lemon curd without the sweetness. It finishes clean and mineral, with a nice snap of salinity.

All of the Baron Fuente Quinconce wines are aged on the lees for 7 years, this help develop that beautiful toasty briochey note that some people really look for in their Champagne. This is no different, made from 100% Chardonnay, the nose smells like a freshly baked baguette, green apple slices, and lemon zest. The palate is crisp and delicious, with a really nice depth from the time on the lees. The fruit is really dense, almost a little reduced on the palate, giving this is a sense of opulence for me, there's just something so pleasantly unctuous about how the fruit lingers. This would be one of my top choices for passed appetizers after a toast, or by yourself at 8pm while you read a nice book.

When a Champagne comes from a single vineyard, is non-vintage, and spends a remarkable seven years on the lees, you typically expect a high price tag—and sometimes a bit of lopsided weight. But this wine defies expectations, clearly benefiting from each of these elements while maintaining an almost unbelievable price point given the level of care in every bottle. It reminds you of all the finer things in life while remaining clean, focused, beautifully structured, and mineral-driven—not to mention, just downright delicious. Perfect for pairing with food, celebrating special moments, or simply elevating any day that needs a bit of sprucing up.

Notes

This wine used to be called the Esprit- but now goes by the name "Quincone"- the term used for stacking bottles like sardines in champagne. This unique, all Chardonnay Champagne comes from a nine-and-a-half acre single vineyard called the Chantemanche, in Saacy-sur-Marne. It might be the most western vineyard site in all of Champagne, and is actually so far west that it is in the Paris district, on the very edge of Champagne. The wine is aged for seven years on the lees with reserve wines from three previous harvests. This creamy, nutty Blanc de Blancs is seamless, integrated, and has good, refreshing lift on the finish.
