Situated at the bottom of the combe that gives this excellent premier cru its name - the grand cru lieu-dit of Les Petits Musigny is next door - this is delicate, refined, textured Chambolle from one of the top names in Morey-St-Denis. It is sweet, nuanced and refreshing, with a crunchy, satisfying finish. (TA)

Fine attractive fresh red-purple. The bouquet shows clearly a darker fruit style than the village wines, dark raspberry, with a good mid palate concentration, a nice little touch of acidity and a touch of salinity, excellent texture and long aftertaste. Finely balanced throughout.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 72-year-old vines. It has a precise, pure bouquet of raspberry preserve, wild strawberry and rose petal aromas, the oak nicely integrated. The precise, detailed palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a crisp line of acidity and good tension and mineralité toward the finish. This is a classy, cerebral wine. (NM)

The 2017 la Combe d’Orveau from Romain Taupenot is a lovely young wine in the making. The bouquet is still fairly adolescent, but offers up lovely purity in its blend of cherries, beetroot, mustard seed, coffee, gamebird, a fine base of soil and cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely transparent, with a good core, fine-grained tannins, lovely acids and impressive length and grip on the very well-balanced finish. All this lovely wine needs is more bottle age. It should be approachable around its tenth birthday, and then probably close down again for a bit around age fifteen, with its best drinking coming from age twenty onwards. 92+
