In honor of their 15-Year Anniversary, Balcones presents Cataleja Texas Single Malt; it is a complex and unique tribute to the distillery's trailblazers. This whisky, beginning its maturation in used Kentucky bourbon barrels, was later transferred to decommissioned Sherry Solera puncheons from select Spanish bodegas. After experiencing the impact of the 80+-year-old casks on their first filling, the whisky was moved back to neutral barrels and then blended in with additional solera cask refills, creating a beautifully integrated flavor profile. Cataleja enchants the senses. On the nose, it is bright yet earthy, with notes of brandied figs, smoked paprika, sautéed apricots, and savory hints of sobrasada with orange zest. The palate presents brooding notes of medjool dates, cashew butter, cacao nib, and vibrant eucalyptus oil, concluding with a bittersweet finish of licorice and cherry ice cream.
