Matured for 15 months in French oak (22% new). Potently intense fruit here – the wine enters the mouth with fanfare and pomp; the fruit that gathers there is riddled with cassis, raspberry leaf, black tea, pepper, exotic spice and more. Classical cabernet from Margaret River, from a great vintage. Exactly what we have come to expect from the Redbrook Reserve range.

The 2018 vintage was lush and excellent, and this 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an accurate barometer of what we can expect from both the region and the season. It features abundant fruit wrapped in velvety tannins. This is age-worthy and slowly evolving and hasn't yet approached its first stage of development it is still ascending.

Dark plums, blackcurrants and tomato leaves on the nose, plus a touch of cola. It’s full-bodied with ripe black and purple fruit notes, accompanied by medium-firm tannins and bright acidity that provide structure. Intensely fruity. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

2018 Evans & Tate "Redbrook Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River ($44.99) Our newest direct import producer Evans and Tate is an iconic Margaret Vineyard producer whose historic Redbrook Vineyard dates back to the early 1970s. Founded by John Evans and John Tate in the heart of Wilyabrup. With some of the oldest vines in Margaret River, the Redbrook Vineyard produces one of Margaret River’s most celebrated Cabernets–and we’re thrilled to have them at K&L. The 2018 Redbrook estate is quite possibly the best Margaret River Cabernet I’ve tasted in the under $100 range. And while it may be blasphemy–I actually prefer this to the iconic Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet. The nose here has endless depth, showcasing powerful notes of black cassis, tobacco and an incredible defined graphite note. Supporting aromas of sandalwood, red chili and clove among others only give additional detail to explore. Although Margaret River often draws comparisons to Napa, this wine reads like classified growth Bordeaux: more St. Julian than Oakville. It is structured and ageable, showcasing both power and poise. The tannin profile is vertically structured, and fine; the acidity effortlessly slides across the palate hitting at all the right moments. An outstanding wine that will draw comparisons to Cabernet twice its price and sets a new bar for Margeret River.

Notes

The history of Evans & Tate dates back to 1971, when John Evans and John Tate first planted vines in Western Australia’s Swan Valley. Three years later, they acquired land in Wilyabrup, in the heart of the Margaret River region, where they established the Redbrook vineyard. In 1987, the first Evans & Tate Margaret River wine was released. Located just a three-hour drive south of Perth, Margaret River is one of Australia’s—and the world’s—most remote and renowned winegrowing regions. Nestled beside the Indian Ocean, the region offers ideal conditions for viticulture. Its proximity to the ocean, ancient soils, and Mediterranean climate contribute to the consistent quality of its wines. Warm, dry summers are tempered by afternoon sea breezes, while mild winters provide a stable environment for vine growth. Wilyabrup, in particular, is acclaimed for producing some of Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The Redbrook vineyard is a prime example, spanning 20 hectares and home to some of the oldest vines in the region, now over 40 years old.
