Reviewed January 2023The 2021 Richebourg from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is quite black fruity in personality
this year, but another superb wine in the making. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a youthful blend of black cherries, black plums, raw cocoa, gamebird, dark soil tones, a touch of fresh herbs, bonfire and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with fine transparency and grip, ripe, buried tannins and a long, focused and complex finish of lovely balance and soil signature.

A noble purple in colour. A fresh suave even plump fruit on the nose, pure in its raspberry profile. Three barrels, two from Cavin who Charles likes (he uses five cooper in all). Not just brilliantly seductive, this digs much deeper yet still finishes on the very fresh red fruit style of the vintage. Thoroughly exciting. *5-Star Wine*

The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet that is focused and vivacious, very complex, quite floral in style and actually like Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp and edgy, very saline with a persistent finish. This seems to unfold with each swirl of the glass, yet you can tell there is hidden depth to this Richebourg that time will reveal. This is pure class. (NM)
