2021 Maison Henri Boillot Meursault

Decanter
Review Date: 05/2022The 2021 vintage of this perennial classic is lively and fresh, with an accent on bright lemon peel aromas and a hint of smoky reduction on the initial attack. A light, expressive texture follows on the palate; crisp acidity is balanced by substantial extract. The wine is a blend of domaine-owned grapes and purchased fruit from well-sited lieux-dits, whose combined surface is two hectares. Guillaume Boillot called out particularly Casse-Tetes, Les Levrons, and En la Barre. In 2021, however, this two hectares produced just 12 barrels. (CC)

Taut and incisive, the 2021 Meursault Village offers up aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers and toasted nuts, followed by a medium-bodied palate built around tangy acids, and concluding with a saline finish. (WK)

Mostly from their own vines and includes some Goutte d’Or this year. Pale to mid lemon yellow. A certain weight on the nose, more than elegance. More classic on the palate with a depth of pear and ripe apple fruit, medium plus length and a good structure for the future. Drink from 2025-2028.

(a blend of roughly equal proportions from Pelles Dessus, Casse Tête, Grands Charrons, En la Barre, En la
Barre, Mal Poirier and En Luraule). This is actually quite aromatically similar to the Bourgogne save for displaying notably
more floral elements. The caressing but decidedly punchy medium weight flavors also display fine delineation that carries over
to the youthfully austere, lemony and sneaky long finale. This could use better depth but more should reasonably develop if
given a chance and my rating assumes that it will.
