2019 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac
95
Chris Kissack
Review Date: 12/2021A straightforward blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, this was aged in 50% new oak before bottling. It has a simply wonderful character on the nose, classically styled with dried blackcurrants, some expressive smoky tinges redolent of smouldering tobacco, set in a beautifully defined style but with little currant, black bean, toast, truffle and cigar-box highlights along the way. The palate is superbly delineated just as the nose indicates, with a sinewy tension and a medium-bodied texture. So elegantly poised, with a rich substance, smoked fruit communicating some of the complex and savoury character of the nose, with tightly knit tannins and fresh acidity. Just divine;this should age brilliantly.

Notes
92 points Antonio Galloni for Vinous: "The 2019 Duhart-Milon is bold, juicy and explosive, but also a bit hard in its tannin. I thought some of that austerity would start to resolve with élevage, but it has not, at least not yet. Dark macerated cherry, spice, tobacco and strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections power through to the finish." (02/2022)
